Tourism and Development Theory: Which Way Now?

Tourism has long been explored through the lens of development theory. David Harrison was one earlier academics to do so, subsequently turning his attention critiquing relevance such theory tourism, concluding that although much tourism research framed within it, contributed little if anything knowledge and understanding tourism-development nexus. Recognising Harrison’s contribution field, this paper reviews critique as related before going on suggest increasingly popular notion degrowth offers an alternative conceptual though which may be viewed. More specifically, it argues context global environmental crisis need address growth-inspired excessive production consumption, can considered a viable approach or demands in tourism.
